Get to Know Dr. Pamela W. Lu

Dr. Lu specializes in treating patients with cancer that has spread within the abdomen. She treats peritoneal mesothelioma with surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, or heated chemo applied directly in the abdomen. Her expertise includes minimally invasive surgical techniques like robotic surgery.

She leads the Division of Surgical Oncology’s HIPEC Treatment Program at OSUCCC-James. Dr. Lu also serves as a clinical assistant professor of surgery within the Division of Surgical Oncology at Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Dr. Lu’s research interests involve many facets of surgical oncology. Her research has been extensively published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences. She has a focus on researching strategies to improve surgical outcomes for people fighting cancer. Her research also involves investigating ways to reduce disparities in cancer care delivery.

She received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She did her residency in general surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Lu completed a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She trained under peritoneal cancer specialist Dr. Keith Fournier at MD Anderson.
