Clinical Excellence Award Winner
Dr. Lynn Wilson’s efforts earned him the 2008 David J. Leffell Prize for Clinical Excellence. This annual award is presented to the Yale faculty member “who best exemplifies clinical expertise, a commitment to teaching, and the highest standards of care and compassion for patients,” according to a Yale Cancer Center press release.
His patients have included individuals with mesothelioma, thoracic cancer, lung cancer, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and melanoma.
When New York Magazine assembled its 2010 list of the region’s top doctors, Wilson earned a spot in the top 10% of all physicians in the New York metro area. The awards process weighed professional qualifications, listening and communication skills, empathy and trustworthiness.
Teaching the Next Generation of Specialists
In addition to maintaining his practice at Yale’s Department of Therapeutic Radiology, Wilson teaches at the university, extending his caring demeanor to students as well. In 2008 he received the Francis Gilman Blake Award, given each year to an exceptional teacher of the medical sciences.
His extensive research in the field of radiology landed him a number of leadership positions at Yale. He serves as vice chairman and clinical director of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology and is the director of the department’s radiology/radiation oncology residency training program.
His scholarly articles have appeared in reputable journals such as the Journal of Thoracic Oncology and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology.
Wilson graduated from Yale in 1986 with a master’s in public health. He earned his medical degree in 1990 from George Washington University. He completed his residency in therapeutic radiology and internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was named chief resident at the facility in 1993.
Dr. Wilson’s Publications
