About Matt

Matt Mauney is an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of professional writing and editing experience. Prior to joining The Mesothelioma Center at Asbestos.com in 2016, Matt spent three years as an online producer for the Orlando Sentinel.

There, he wrote for the Gone Viral and The List blogs and served as the Community Manager for theme parks and attractions content for OrlandoSentinel.com, creating and managing content related to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and other Central Florida attractions. He also wrote a monthly travel column for the Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Through his journalism career, his work has appeared on ChicagoTribune.com, LATimes.com and FoxSports.com.

Matt writes and edits blog and news posts for The Mesothelioma Center at Asbestos.com about cancer research and treatments. He also edits pages and other content on the website. He enjoys telling the stories of mesothelioma survivors, and he hopes to spread the word of the dangers of asbestos and options mesothelioma patients have in living with the disease. While Matt hasn’t been directly affected by mesothelioma, cancer runs in his family. His goal is to spread hope and empower patients dealing with asbestos-related diseases.

Matt has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Georgia Southern University. When he’s not writing or editing, he enjoys hiking and kayaking, watching college football and traveling as much as possible. He also holds a certificate in health writing from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
